We'll try again for this year's photo soon. Last weekend we were unsuccessfull. (It wasn't pretty)
Here is 2004's.

Studs Mean No Duds
Robin and I bought our Christmas presents today. Four of them, in fact.
Studded tires. $368. Ouch.
At least we were able to stretch out the use of our "summer tires." ( local term) They were pretty scary looking, but now we can make it through the winter with some monster grip.
Our little Hyundai sounds like a pitbull as it rolls down the street now.
Speaking of duds though, Robin did get a new work outfit today. (paid for by the company) Ever hear of Carhart? (Think what rednecks wear when they upgrade from Dickies.)
As we strolled through Ranch and Home, we hummed along to Coming To Your City while Robin tried on her $90 overalls. Daddy got to try on $300 Stetsons with the girls as she browsed through $15 socks.
Apparently being a redneck ain't cheap. Although, I did find a nice black straw for $20 but Robin said I couldn't get it. I thought since she spent $130 on redneck attire the least I could do was try to fit in with her new crowd.
Of course, then I remembered that she threw away my black cowboy boots during the move to Washington.
Anyway I spent most of the weekend in the yard, which is part of the reason why I haven't posted in a few days. Needless to say, we are lighting up the neighborhood now. Home Depot had a sale on lights with 50 cent boxes of 70 and $1.50 boxes of 100.
I may just leave them up until someone comes up here to visit. (Remember coming back from Saudi in July, Dad?) Yep, I can keep them up for awhile.
We have officially lost all hope of coming home for Christmas now with Robin home all week. She is using what little vacation time she had accumulated so we can have a paycheck coming in. If we had known how bad this company would be doing right now, I don't think we would have come all this way. Now she won't have any vacation time around Christmas to use. Hopefully she at least be working out in the field starting on Monday. (hence the new winter clothing)
We visited the birthplace of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe today. Well, we drove out there to show the girls the snow covered mountains. (Aside from the one next to town.)

The Not So Arbor Day
Well, since we are hoping to head south for Christmas we are putting up a tree early this year.
(insert comments about hoping in one hand and crapping in the other here)
Anyway, it's time to go cut down a tree. Well, maybe not. I'm not sure what we are going to do exactly. For $5 we can go up to the mountains and cut down our own out of the National Forest.
Of course that would mean braving the snow, paying for a tank of gas ($30), buying a new saw ($10), cutting the tree and putting it on the roof of the car and driving two hours back home.
Or I can go down to Lowes and pay $45.
Experience or convenience.

Thanksgiving Week
The reality has set in. We are alone up here. No big plans. No big party. Just football and a turkey.
And we play the Broncos. If being a Cowboys fan in the post-Aikman era has taught me anything it is not to get my hopes up. I do anyway, of course.
This year though my optimism is a little more tempered. The Broncos are looking very good and the Boys are good at screwing up this time of year. But then I think about last Monday.
I had a sinking feeling in my stomach at gametime. I knew the Eagles were going to be ready to pound us in Philly, which they did very well for most of the game.
I got up to get some tea and contemplate turning the channel before I became too depressed or angry to speak for the rest of the night.
I sat back down with under 4:00 minutes to go in the game. It happened. We frigging scored.
Then Roy Williams happened. Man, I love that Sooner.
The Cowboys won and moved into 1st place in the division. I have that uneasy feeling again about this Thursday. If the Cowboys don't win I am going to be very unhappy on an already depressing day.
We couldn't afford to go to home or even Seattle this weekend, but I suppose it is for the best. Our first snowstorm is headed our way this weekend.
Yes there has been snow all around us in the mountains, but not down in the Tri-Cities. I am hoping for a bunch. Our high temps have been hovering around 38 degrees for a few days now, so I am ready for some payback weather wise. Freezing fog is not good weather.

We haven't got the studded tires yet, which has kept us from driving too close to the mountains and the girls have been asking to see some snow.
It'd be nice to walk outside and play in the snow.
Song Of The Day
Since it's been almost a week that I last posted I suppose I should change it to song of the week instead.

The Tooth Fairy
Robin and I are finally getting our mouths fixed. With the flexible spending account Robin set up, we have almost $1,000 sitting there doing nothing. If we don't spend it by the end of December we lose it. Since we have been pinching pennies for so long now it just kept adding up.
Until today. Robin is getting a couple fixed/pulled today. She still has a baby tooth for crying out loud. Can you believe that? A baby tooth.
I'll be getting some stuff done soon, too. It has been so long though, we'll have to wait until next year to get all the work done. Our insurance only covers so much in one year.
I'm appalled at the lack of services you get when you PAY for insurance. Healthcare costs so much money because of the price-gouging drug companies.
Anytime someone brings up the issue though Republicans start the "but look at all the good the companies do" routine.
Then the argument goes south. If only they let someone with backbone on these news channels.
What about the "but look at all the good they DON'T do" routine.
They make too much money NOT finding cures. AIDS, Cancer, the common cold. All would be gone if there were any money to be made in a cure. But there's an endless amount of money to be made by treating the symptoms instead.
The healthcare bubble is going to burst soon, but when? I look at my girls as I try to explain why mommy is going to the dentist today and I remember the what it was like when I was that age.
So much to look forward to. Is it fair to give them all this fantasy? The Tooth Fairy, Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, God.
I'm a part of the perpetuation of these illusions now. I suppose it's part of the fun growing up, but I wonder why we have to lie to our children to have fun.
Then I realize it's all about making it easier on them now because after they grow up there won't be an imaginary bunny going around leaving candy to rot their teeth so the tooth fairy can leave them money. There won't be a jolly old man sneaking into your house and leaving toys and gifts or some invisible old man there to keep you safe from the boogey monster.
Then I think more about Santa Clause. Old white man living with a bunch of child-like creatures that make toys. Then he makes children sit on his lap to ask for toys. Sounds like a pedophile with a sweat shop to me.
Oh well, I better go see why the girls are being so quiet. I get nervous when I can't hear them tearing up their room.

Where's Daddy?
I can hear the girls bugging Robin since they haven't seen me in a few minutes. Usually I get inturrupted when I'm using the restroom, in the shower, taking a nap, talking on the phone, etc.
This time I got to use the restroom in peace and decided to sneak into the office for a couple of minutes. Robin just came in to find out why the girls were so concerned about my whereabouts.
I just got the first photo posted and already they are bugging out.
I got to go fishing yesterday while Robin and the girls were down for a nap. It was very windy with a wind chill at 31 degrees according to my weather bug. Needless to say, when I hadn't got a bite in three hours I headed home.
No wonder I was the only one on the water for at least 20 miles. It's strange after being shoulder to shoulder with so many during the salmon run.
Anyway, we took the kids to the movies last night after I returned.
The theater was crazy. The kids loved it of course, especially since they had been begging to see Chicken Little for weeks now. (They don't quite understand the whole "coming soon" concept.)
They ate an entire large order of popcorn and never stopped smiling or gigling until we were in the car. Very funny movie BTW.
Today, well, I didn't do much of anything. I got up around 8:30 to give the girls a show to watch and some bananas and cereal to eat. Then I watched football until noon when they made me make them corndogs. I slept most of the afternoon.
It was a good Sunday. (At least good enough for those of us tired of freezing during every attempt to fish.)

Quiet Time
The girls have been asleep for an hour now. I finally get to make my way into the office and get online. They have been making it impossible for the last few days.
I got the housework done this morning, so I have the afternoon to goof off. Woohoo!
FAMILY ALERT: I have been taking a look at some jobs in Texas. Applied at four, which were all in radio of course.
Missing family and friends is going to make the holidays tough this year. I know I said "hell or high water," but we did the budget for the next two months and it is impossible for us to get down there. Sucks.
Oh well.
I had a good laugh earlier this afternoon when I was watching a few minutes of the Situation Room and saw Bush trying to sell another big one. Now we're trying to rewrite history. Man that's a good one.
Sorry, Dubya but selling the war on false pretense made you history's fool.
Not that I'm ready to cut and run. Anyone who has listened to me lately should know that. But I refuse to help perpetuate lies while supporting the new war in Iraq.
We know it started with Cheney and his criminal buddies putting for company profits and no Karl Rove spin can change the facts.
Speaking of Rove and his spin tactics, it was apparent the machine has broke down watching the results of Election Day.
It was a Democrat's dream when we won all the big ones. (though it was a small election) All of the GOP initiatives up here on the ballot were soundly defeated, including a cap on medical lawsuits. It was also great to see the guys Bush stumped for lose big as well.
I suppose that's why Bush is in such a bad mood now. I can't wait until next year when we take back Congress.

Let's Torture Karl Rove
As the last episode of the season for Real Time aired last Friday, I am again made to wait several months before I finally hear someone that speaks the truth about what's going on in our country.
The headlines today only inflame my discontent over the current state of all things presidential and congressional.
"BUSH: We Never Condone Torture"
The headline itself is nothing more than the perpetuation of another GOP lie. Of course they condone torture, it's apart of their policy written into action. Everyone in the world knows it except the 37% of voters that still believe in the Bush LIE aka PRESIDENCY.
We have the pictures to prove the lie. But what is one more lie in a chain of lies leading back to 2000?
If the Supreme Court's activist conservative judges hadn't appointed Bush as the PUSA in 2000, the GOP wouldn't have had the ammunition to win the 2004 debacle.
Yesterday evening I was disappointed at the reminder of the failure of Democrats to engage in truth politics as I watched the West Wing.
The Bush jabs were only mildly entertaining and very disappointing.
"I will not start a war for oil."
Well, of course not. The Iraq war has nothing to do with the story line of the damn show. In the realm of the show, the good guys are running the country.
The policy debate was reminiscent of the Kerry/Bush debate. When the Democrats show any glimpse of revealing the truth about the policy differences, Republicans shift the focus to "issues" that have nothing to do with what's at stake.
Then I see Tom Coburn on Meet the Press last night on CNBC's repeat. He contradicted himself on the show five different times. He only gets called on one of them. Liberal media bias my ass. There hasn't been a liberal media since 1994.
They went to sleep when the GOP took over congress and into a coma on 9/11. Katrina woke them up long enough to roll over for a week. Then they went back to sleep.
Of course, this is all part of the grand design of our country's owners. Three very like-minded Board of Directors controlling the media that are more interested in filling their pockets with the money of pharmaceutical, gas, and insurance companies than they are anything else.
Oh well, I could rant some more but I've got a crap-filled diaper to dispose of. If only cleaning up the country was as easy as a few baby wipes.

My Head Hurts
It's always something with me lately. I feel like I'm falling apart. The past few days my head has hurt on the right side. I don't know if it's from hitting my head (which happens more often than you would think) or from my infected tooth.
I have been taking antibiotics for the swelling, which had reached my left eye but my head hurts still. My tooth never really hurt. Not any more than normal anyway. And the tooth was on the other side of my darn mouth.
I haven't accomplished much over the last few days in the way of unpacking. I've managed to get the kitchen completely finished and all the pictures up downstairs.
Tomorrow I have to remember to get the girls' posters up. Chloe was asking for them again tonight at bedtime. It makes me feel guilty becuase I have forgotten all week. Every now and then she will ask me, "Is this my house?"
Ouch.
The other day when we were doing the Halloween thing she asked, "Can we go to Papa's house?" I guess this neighborhood reminds her of Oklahoma City.
I've decided that come hell or high water (or closed mountain passes) that we are going to find a way to get home for Christmas. The passes up here all have snow already. Well, actually everything over 3,000 ft has snow cover right now. Which put this weekends trip to Tucannon for some late season trout fishing out the window.
I haven't been fishing since Oct. 23 and I'm really wanting to get out on the water. We live on the Columbia again. I haven't driven to the water yet to see how far we are from this house, but it's just too cold to take the girls. The high temp everyday is about 50, but that's not until the afternoon. It's also been raining a lot since we moved in. In fact, since the day we moved in (the 27th) it has rained in the morning, or at night, or all day, every single day except one.
That means no park, no yard, no fishing.
Of course, since the salmon season is over now I don't know what to fish for on the Columbia. It's such big water. Boats have the best access. I guess I'll have to do more homework.
Every few months I have to learn everything over again up here. Each season is different. Now that we've really been too broke to go anywhere my option are pretty limited. Which means I'm stuck with what I have already tackle wise. For bait it's either fly, plug or powerbait I already have in the box. No money for anything else.
It'd be better if I could have gotten a job up here. I don't know why I can't get back into radio. I've gone from being "the next big thing" to someone that can't even get in the door without ever reaching any of my goals.
I guess that's what I sacrificed when I went back to Amarillo for Robin to finish school. I chose family over career, which you aren't supposed to do in radio.
I'd do it again though, don't get me wrong. I love my girls, I love my wife. It's just sometimes I wonder what I'm going to be doing five years from now.

Daddy: The Chef
The tempura turned out awesome. Prawns, carrots and Zuchinni. MMMMMM.
The yakisoba... not so good.
Guess I'll have to leave that up to Woo's Terriyaki.
Robin made her contribution to our wasteline in the form of a keylime cheesecake. She has gotten so good at making cheesecake from scratch.
Of course, we still have more than enough Halloween candy to curb any sweets cravings. Oh well, I think I earned a little extra carrying that darn king mattress up the stairs by myself while Robin was at work.
Not much to talk about today. I'm still putting the house together, which is still a daunting task to say the least.

Candy Hangover
The girls woke up this morning screaming for more candy.
They begged us to take them trick-or-treating at noon.
"I say thank you," Chloe pleaded.
The night before they would not say thank you or even trick-or-treat. They did however demand we go to each house on every block that we walked down.
After each house Chloe would say, "I wanna go more trick-or-treating."
We got the whole expedition on video, which we are getting set to send out as soon as we get the whole VHS tape filled.
This was the first Halloween in 7 years that we missed the big bash at John and Deana's. Well, 7 for me anyway. Robin missed a the ones before we met and one since. Last year's was cool. They did the Pirate's of the Carribean theme.
The girls and I watched the movie yesterday.
Deana and I keep playing phone tag, so I don't know what theme we missed this year. We didn't have any parties to go to up here. Since we were moving over the weekend it wasn't like we could throw one. Not that I really want to hang out with Robin's boss.
